New Food Options at Metro Café Opens at Former Site of The National Restaurant & Coffee Shop

Patrons of the former National Restaurant & Coffee Shop which, as reported, used to be located at 8 Bedford Park Boulevard and Jerome Avenue for 43 years prior to its closure some time around May 2025, have some new eatery options following the Grand Opening of the Metro Café at the same location on July 13.   Described by co-owner, Ale Coronel, as a “fantastic addition to Bedford Park Boulevard,” the location is right across from a major transit hub at Bedford Park subway station serving the 4 train, and a short distance from Lehman College. Unsupervised Children & Teens Continue Dangerous Swim in Bronx River

Unsupervised teens and pre-teens continue to head down a footpath beyond the Burke Avenue Bridge that connects the neighborhoods of Norwood and Allerton, where they continue to cool off in the murky water despite the potentially unseen dangers of glass and submerged debris, as well as possible toxins in the water.

A few dozen friends and family members of community activist Gloria Thomas joined residents of University Heights for a street co-naming ceremony in her honor at the northeast corner of West 190th Street and Aqueduct Avenue on Monday, July 13. The street was co-named Ms. Gloria Thomas Way.
