Local voters will no doubt be aware of a growing progressive Democratic movement in the Northwest Bronx, and in The Bronx generally, as in much of New York City over the past several years. Past notable wins have included State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33) in 2010, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) in 2018, along with former State Sen. Alessandria Biaggi, and former Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) in 2020.

Four Transport Changes Required for Some Bronx NYCHA Residents to Get to Bronx City Grocery Store

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was back in The Bronx on Monday, May 18, together with the NYC Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to announce that The Peninsula in the Hunts Point section of the borough has been selected as the second site for the City’s municipal grocery store program. The multi-purpose development, which is already underway, is located along Spofford Avenue between Manida and Tiffany Streets and is the former site of the Spofford Juvenile Detention Center.

Kingsbridge: Greek Heritage Month Celebrated

The sound of clapping echoed through St. Peter the Apostle Greek Orthodox Church in Kingsbridge on Thursday, April 16, as rows of Greek American families turned their attention to a troupe of young dancers. A large blue and white Greek flag hung at the front of the room, while families waved similar smaller flags from their seats.

A.D. 81 Candidate Morgan Evers Endorsed by Rivera, Jackson & Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club

Morgan Evers, a teacher and disability activist who launched her campaign to challenge local, 16-term Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz on Dec. 7, 2025 for the 81st Assembly District seat in the upcoming June primaries, has received additional endorsements in recent weeks in the form of local State Senators Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33), Robert Jackson (S.D. 31), and the Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club. 

UPDATE Northwest Bronx Community & Clergy Coalition Go Bronx-wide Relaunching as “Our Bronx”

At its 52nd annual meeting, held at Lehman College on Saturday, Feb. 28, the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition (NWBCCC) announced its new organizational name and identity, Our Bronx, marking the organization’s borough-wide expansion and what was described as its deepened commitment to building power for racial justice and economic democracy across The Bronx. NWBCCC first hinted at its future boroughwide expansion during its 50th anniversary celebration.
