Free NYNJ Work Cup Fan Events Coming to Every Borough
Organizers behind this summer’s FIFA World Cup 2026™ say fans won’t necessarily need a ticket to the NYNJ Stadium, where eight matches will be played over the course of the tournament, to feel the energy. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and the FIFA World Cup 2026™ NYNJ Host Committee announced April 27 during a press conference on Staten Island that they are partnering to bring free, official NYNJ fan events across all five New York City boroughs throughout the course of the World Cup tournament.
Bronx Week 2026 People’s Choice Winner Announced at Sponsorship Appreciation Event
Bronx Week 2026 is well underway, as reported, and on Tuesday, May 5, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson and partners hosted a Bronx Week 2026 Sponsorship Appreciation Event at Pregones Theatre in the South Bronx, during which this year’s Bronx Walk of Fame People’s Choice Award winner was awarded to Jimmy Rodriguez Jr. of Jimmy’s Bronx Café.
Kingsbridge: Greek Heritage Month Celebrated
The sound of clapping echoed through St. Peter the Apostle Greek Orthodox Church in Kingsbridge on Thursday, April 16, as rows of Greek American families turned their attention to a troupe of young dancers. A large blue and white Greek flag hung at the front of the room, while families waved similar smaller flags from their seats.

UPDATE Former NYPD Chief of Dept. John Chell Announces He is Running for Mayor in 2029
Former, now retired NYPD Chief of Department John Chell has announced that he is running for mayor in 2029. Chell retired at the end of 2025, announcing his decision in October of that year, after former New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced his decision to pull out of the race in September. Chell, who completed over three decades of service with the NYPD, was most recently known for having publicly clashed on social media with some reporters over their crime and policing-related coverage.
