Bronx homeowners across the borough are showing their pride by painting murals on the garage doors of their homes after the New York Knicks won their first NBA Championship in 53 years on Saturday, June 13.

This week, we asked readers for their opinions on the NYPD’s recent implementation of the split of the former Patrol Borough Bronx (344 employees) into north (275 employees) and south (275 employees) divisions, as announced earlier this year, bringing around 100 additional officers to each of the new north and south command centers. NYPD Assistant Chief Aneudy Castillo has been named as the new head / commanding officer of Patrol Borough Bronx North. Assistant Chief Brian C. Hennessy would be running Patrol Borough Bronx South (PBXS).

The 40th Annual Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade returned to the Grand Concourse on Saturday, May 30, and Boricua pride was ever present. With this year’s theme of “honoring the past, inspiring the future,” organizers said it reflected the parade’s longstanding commitment to preserving Puerto Rican traditions, while empowering future generations.

Run the Bronx, the annual race comprising a 5K run, 10K run and 2-mile walk, was held once again this year on Saturday, May 2, at Bronx Community College in University Heights, where a host of shiny trophies and medals were awarded to pumped up runners in the presence of Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson. A kid’s fun run was also held.
