Following Federal Health Care Cuts July 1, City Promotes Access to NYC Care Health Care Program

The Trump administration’s long anticipated federal funding cuts ended expanded federal “Essential Plan” health care coverage for around 450,000 New Yorkers on July 1, as pre-advised earlier this year. In response, NYC Health + Hospitals’ announced Tuesday, July 21, the return of the citywide “Light the Way Truck” outreach initiative to remind New Yorkers of the City’s NYC Care (healthcare access) program. The outreach initiative kicks off in The Bronx.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Wednesday, March 4, that the operator of a Bronx home daycare center and her husband were each sentenced to 25 years to life in prison by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Margaret Clancy for the accidental death due to fentanyl poisoning of 22-month-old Nicholas Feliz Domenici on Sept. 15, 2023, and for the exposure of three other children to fentanyl who survived the poisoning.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Montefiore Health System in conjunction with the nonprofit, Hear Your Song, hosted a gathering and artworks presentation at Montefiore Medical Center’s Moses campus in Norwood on May 5 to showcase original songs and artworks written or created by various Bronx teens which were centered around their respective mental health journeys.

Residents, health professionals, sponsors, and community organizations gathered at the Northeast Bronx YMCA in the Edenwald section of The Bronx on Saturday, June 27, for the 2026 Annual Health Fair. This year’s theme was “Health is Wealth” and the event was described by those involved in its planning as a well-organized celebration of wellness, [poor health] prevention, community and support. Nutritionist and dietitian Gloria Bent of “Bent on Wellness” served as hostess.

MTA Announces Roll Out of First R211 Upgraded Train Cars on D Line Serving The Bronx

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit is announcing the debut of standard R211A trains on the D line, marking the sixth subway line to be served by the new train cars. MTA officials said the new train cars will eventually replace the R68s, which have been in the system along the line since the 1980s, adding that the news comes just in time for summer trips to the beach at Coney Island. The last stop on the D train in The Bronx is at Norwood / 205th Street.
