UPDATE Feds Sue State DOH Officials Over Homecare Transition Bid as Gov Announces $2 Billion+ in Tax Relief Checks this Summer
Republican Assemblyman Chris Tague (A.D. 102) called for an investigation on Tuesday, June 16, by the New York attorney general following reports that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a lawsuit alleging New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration rigged the bid process for an $11 billion Medicaid homecare program.
UPDATE Kingsbridge: Off Duty Cop Charged with Shooting Man Had Accessed Police Databases without Due Authorization
Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark announced Thursday, June 11, that an NYPD officer who had been suspended without pay after allegedly, while off-duty, shooting a man in the head, has been indicted for attempted murder, assault, kidnapping and other charges in connection to the incident. The shooting which, according to the DA’s office, stemmed from the officer’s search for his stolen car, took place in the Kingsbridge section of The Bronx in March, as reported at the time.
UPDATE NY-13 Race Heats Up: Espaillat Vs Avila Chevalier
The NY-13 Congressional Democratic primary looks tight with incumbent Congressman Adriano Espaillat battling leading progressive challenger, Darializa Avila Chevalier. According to predictionedge.com, Espaillat shows a polling average of 38.5% to Avila Chevalier’s 33.5%. Between March 25 and 30, Upswing Research showed Espaillat leading in the race with 42% to Avila Chevalier’s 28%, but between June 3 and 9, Data for Progress showed Avila Chevalier leading with 39% to Espaillat’s 35%.
“Ghost Bike” Memorials and Ride of Silence Honor Fallen Cyclists and E-Bikers
A dozen or so bike riders participated in the annual Bronx “Ghost” bike “Ride of Silence” through the borough on Wednesday, May 20. The event was organized, as usual, by the NYC Street Memorial Project and Transportation Alternatives and was dedicated to the memory of the 47 bikers killed in Bronx traffic collisions since 2005, according to Transportation Alternatives.

Four Transport Changes Required for Some Bronx NYCHA Residents to Get to Bronx City Grocery Store
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was back in The Bronx on Monday, May 18, together with the NYC Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to announce that The Peninsula in the Hunts Point section of the borough has been selected as the second site for the City’s municipal grocery store program. The multi-purpose development, which is already underway, is located along Spofford Avenue between Manida and Tiffany Streets and is the former site of the Spofford Juvenile Detention Center.
