Bronx Democrat, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), Republican Rep. Laurel Lee (FL-15) and businesswoman and activist, Paris Hilton were joined by other advocates and elected representatives on Thursday, Jan. 22, in Washington D.C. as they called for the passage of the Disrupt Explicit Forged Images and Non-Consensual Edits Act (DEFIANCE Act), bipartisan legislation that would grant survivors the right to take civil action against those who knowingly produce, distribute, solicit and receive, or possess with the intent to distribute, nonconsensual sexually-explicit digital forgeries i.e. deep fake, pornographic AI images.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Tuesday, Jan. 20, that a Bronx woman has been indicted on first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and other charges for allegedly starving her teenage twin sons and allegedly keeping them virtually housebound for nine years, significantly stunting their development.

This week, given Norwood and Parkchester are home to large Bengali communities, we asked residents for their thoughts on the life and recent death of Bangladesh’s first female prime minister, Khaleda Zia, who, according to various sources cited by Wikipedia, served from 1991-1996, and from 2001-2006. Zia died on Dec. 30, 2025, at the age of 80.
