UPDATE Eastchester: Man Arrested after Fatal Fire and 14 Hurt in NYCHA Building Explosion

One person has died, one person is critical, and 14 people have been injured following a residential, overnight explosion and fire at a Boston Secor Houses NYCHA complex building in the Eastchester section of The Bronx, according to the City’s fire department. The building is currently undergoing renovations under the Permanent Affordability Commitment Together or PACT program, and the fire followed a gas explosion, FDNY officials said.  

Nurses Continue Strike Action on Day 6 Under Snowfall

Montefiore nurses which make up some of the estimated 15,000 striking nurses in The Bronx and Manhattan, continued their strike action on Day 6 outside Montefiore Medical Center, a private non-for-profit hospital, in Norwood, The Bronx and at other Montefiore locations on Saturday, Jan. 17. The strike began on Monday, Jan. 12, as reported, following failed prior negotiations between the parties. An estimated 15,000 nurses, who are members of New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), in The Bronx and Manhattan at Montefiore, Mount Sinai, and New York Presbyterian private hospital systems continued their strike action on Friday, Jan. 15, which began on Monday, Jan. 12, as reported. The strike followed failed prior negotiations between the parties, as reported, and mainly centers around nurse/patient ratio and other working conditions.
