Borough President Vanessa Gibson announced Wednesday, March 4, that Bronx Week 2026 has been paused amid economic uncertainty. The annual event is a nearly month-long, annual celebration of the borough.

“After careful consideration, the difficult decision has been made to place this year’s Bronx Week on pause,” Gibson said in a video posted online. “This was not an easy decision, as this event is more than just a date on the calendar for us in The Bronx; it’s a reflection of our borough’s culture, pride, and unity. It supports local vendors, showcases our talent, and gives neighbors the chance to connect and celebrate together.”

Gibson went on to say that New York City is navigating a serious economic crisis, and many families, small businesses, and communities are feeling its impact. “In this moment, we have a responsibility to prioritize essential services and ensure that our resources are focused where they are needed most,” the borough president said.

She continued, “Please know this is just a pause and not an ending. This moment gives us the opportunity to reimagine what Bronx Week can and should look like for the future. We want it to return stronger, more inclusive, more impactful, and reflective of the full spirit and pride of our borough. We are committed to bringing this event back when the economic conditions allow us to do so responsibly.”

In the meantime, Gibson said her office will continue to host various cultural events highlighting the borough`s diversity and will work with community partners to find new and creative ways to celebrate The Bronx, support local businesses, and boost tourism. “Bronx Week remains a cherished institution, and I am deeply grateful to the sponsors, community partners, media partners, and supporters who have made it such a tremendous success over the years,” she said.

“We look forward to celebrating together again,” she added. “Until then, our focus remains on the critical work ahead and delivering meaningful, measurable impact to the over 1.4 million residents who call this borough home.”
