Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 15, in partnership with News 12 The Bronx and Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1488 Reverend Dr. Fletcher C. NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has issued a second snow alert for Friday, Jan. 19, beginning at 3 a.m. The alert will remain in effect through 1 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20.

Funeral Arrangements Announced for Norwood Community Leader Joseph McCarthy

Former Norwood teacher and Perry Avenue resident, Joseph McCarthy, died on Sunday, Jan. 7, aged 79. The news was confirmed by his brother, John, who described Joe as a local influential figure and community leader in the ‘60s ’70s and ’80s, who was heavily involved with the local school board.

Democrat Amanda Farías Appointed as City Council Majority Leader

Bronx Democratic City Council Member Amanda Farías (C.D. 18) has been appointed as NYC Council majority leader, effective Jan.3. Farias who represents the neighborhoods of Castle Hill, Clason Point, Harding Park, Parkchester, Unionport, Shorehaven, and Soundview, said she was excited and thanked City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams for what she described as “the enormous trust” Adams has placed in her. Farías is preceded by Manhattan Democratic City Council Member Keith Powers (C.D. 4).

West Farms: Driver Abandons Vehicle after Hitting Bus on Southern Boulevard

Police are looking to question the driver of a vehicle that struck an MTA bus in the West Farms section of the Bronx over the weekend, causing injury to one, before fleeing the scene of the collision.

Gillibrand Releases New Report on Anti-Gun Trafficking Law

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand unveiled her report analyzing initial successes arising from the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA)’s anti-gun trafficking section and mental health funding distribution on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Gillibrand’s first-of-its-kind report found that more than 1,300 illegal guns have been seized and more than 200 defendants have been charged under BSCA’s new gun trafficking statute.
