Unity Democrats Announce Endorsements in Upcoming Democratic Primary

The Unity Democratic Club announced their official endorsements for multiple political races in the upcoming 2025 primary elections in late February. These included City Council Member Justin Brannan (C.D. 43) who represents parts of Brooklyn for the role of NYC comptroller, a role currently held by Brad Lander, City Council Member Rafael Salamanca Jr. (C.D. 17) for Bronx borough president, a role currently held by Vanessa L. Gibson, Danielle Herbert Guggenheim, a Unity Democrat member and former vice-president, for City Council District 11, a role currently held by Eric Dinowitz, and finally incumbent City Council Member Pierina Sanchez for District 14.

Applications Now Open for Submissions to Develop Multiple Bronx Solar Sites

NYC Economic Development Corporation (EDC) announced on Tuesday, May 13, it is now accepting Requests for Proposals (RFP) from developers to design, finance, install, own, operate, repair, maintain, and ultimately decommission roof-mounted and/or carport-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on three EDC-leased sites in The Bronx.

Bronx Man Working as Former Manhattan NYCHA Super Gets 18 Months for Bribery & Extortion

Hector Colon, a 47-year-old Bronx man and former superintendent for the New York City Housing Authority (“NYCHA”) was sentenced today to 18 months in prison for soliciting and accepting approximately $30,000 in bribes from contractors in exchange for awarding repair contracts or approving repair work worth at least $400,000, federal prosecutors said on Tuesday, May 6.

UPDATE Some Residents in Norwood and Olinville Have No Landline Phone Service Since April 22

After some Bronx residents living in ZIP code NY 10467, which broadly covers the Norwood and Olinville neighborhoods, officially reported a loss of landline phone service since Thursday, April 24, Verizon has confirmed to Norwood News that there was damage to some equipment due to vandalism and they are working to fix the issue as soon as possible. One female elderly resident who lives on Dekalb Avenue by East 212th Street who happens to have a cell phone as a back-up said she recently spoke with Verizon and said her service actually stopped April 22.

UPDATE Van Cortlandt Jewish Center to be Sold for $4M to Barone Mgmt with Promise of New Synagogue

Van Cortlandt Jewish Center (VCJC) officials said its members discussed and voted to approve the sale of the VCJC building to Barone Management during a special membership meeting held on March 30. They said under the terms of the sale, which also includes a lease agreement, Barone will build a new 5,000-square-foot synagogue on nearby Stevenson Avenue, and also agreed to additional air rights for VCJC. Officials said the vote was held in accordance with its by-laws and followed a March 5th meeting of the Board of Trustees during which the Board voted unanimously to approve the sale.
