Friends, former Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Hip Hop legend Fat Joe, gathered at Lehman College on March 26 to discuss their respective professional lives, as well as their upbringings and their ongoing commitment to improving The Bronx. The annual event at Lehman, ordinarily held in the form of a lecture, was, this year, called, “Hip Hop with a Heart: The Civic Mind of The Bronx.” The lecture series itself dates back to 1970.
Torres Announces $18,171,279 in Federal Funds for Community Projects
Congressman Ritchie Torres (NY-15) announced $18,171,279 in federal funding for community projects across New York’s 15th Congressional District on Thursday, March 21. The funding, which his office said was secured through the Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations process, will support a range of initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, expanding access to healthcare, and enhancing educational opportunities for constituents.

Puerto Rico: Four USPS Employees Arrested and Charged with Delay / Non-Delivery of Election Mail
Four U.S. Postal Service (USPS) employees assigned to the 65th Infantry Postal Office in San Juan, Puerto Rico were charged on March 7, with delay of mail in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1703(a), as announced by W. Stephen Muldrow, U.S. attorney for the district of Puerto Rico. A federal grand jury in the district of Puerto Rico returned the indictment.

New York City Council passed what was described as a groundbreaking piece of legislation, sponsored by Bronx Council Member Eric Dinowitz (C.D. 11), on Thursday, Feb. 8. The bill aims to ease the burden when applying to the older adult rent freeze program on the City’s older adults living in City-run, Mitchell-Lama housing.

It also voted on a specific healthcare related resolution in support of the NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees.
