Five Alleged Trinitarios Gang Members Charged in Bronx Jewelry Store Gunpoint Robbery Spree

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Friday, Nov. 21, that four men and a 16-year-old boy were indicted on first-degree robbery, conspiracy, grand larceny and other related charges for seven gunpoint robberies that took place in the Kingsbridge, Fordham Heights and Mott Haven sections of The Bronx, among others, that netted them nearly $100,000 in jewelry. The other locations included parts of Northern Manhattan but are being handled separately by the Office of the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani announced Wednesday, Nov. 19, the appointment of Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch to serve as New York City police commissioner in his incoming administration commencing Jan. 1. As the 48th commissioner of the NYPD, he said Tisch has rooted out corruption in the upper echelons of the department and led a department-wide focus on accountability and transparency, while delivering historic reductions in violent crime.

UPDATE Bronx Teen from Ecuador Held by U.S. Refugee Resettlement (ORR) Reunited with Family after Detention

Five leading child advocacy organizations had filed an amicus brief in federal court supporting 16-year-old Bronx teen, Joel, from Ecuador who had been held by the United States Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). His case was heard at a White Plains federal court on Monday, Nov. 17. Norwood News reached out to the advocates for an update on the latest court proceedings, as well as asking which part of The Bronx Joel lives in. While we’re still waiting on the latter, we’ve since been informed that a judge has since ordered Joel released into the custody of a legal guardian and has been reunited with his extended family in the area, while his legal case continues.
