UPDATE Tremont: May the Force Be With You; Panic Button Safety Plan to Connect Bodega Owners to NYPD
“May the Force be with you” was perhaps the underlying message from New York City Mayor Eric Adams to the City’s worst-hit bodega owners when he visited the Tremont section of The Bronx on Sunday, May 4. He was there to announce $1.6 million in funding to equip an estimated 500 bodegas across the five boroughs with new panic buttons which bodega staff can use to immediately call the NYPD in cases of emergency.

A pet grooming business and self-described animal shelter located at 980 East East Gun Hill Road in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx was raided by police and a rescue carried out by the ASPCA on Thursday, May 1. It follows allegations by residents of alleged animal neglect/abuse at the location.

A 37-year-old woman was charged with second-degree murder and other charges on Tuesday evening, April 29, following the fatal stabbing of a 40-year-old man in Fordham Manor the previous night, police said. The woman lives at the same address as the victim according to police reports and according to a neighbor, she is alleged to be his girlfriend.

Eight men, seven living in The Bronx, have been charged with a $6.6 million-dollar car theft operation of luxury cars in New Jersey, including a Rolls Royce, a scam which involved storing the vehicles in The Bronx before shipping them to West Africa, New York and New Jersey officials announced Tuesday, April 29.
