This week, after some negative feedback about quality-of-life issues in and around the Williamsbridge Oval park in Norwood, and in Norwood more broadly, were sent on May 19 to the Office of Councilman Eric Dinowitz (C.D. 11), Bronx Community Board 7, and the Jerome Gun Hill BID from George Lunney of Norwood Residents Association, as well as other quality-of-life concerns raised recently by other local residents, Norwood News asked readers for their opinions on the situation.
UPDATE Norwood: Teen Stomped on in Oval Park Reportedly Missing Since February Mom Says
A video circulating online showing a young female teen being assaulted and stomped on in the face by a group of other teens on Wednesday, April 1, in the Williamsbridge Oval park in the Norwood section of The Bronx, has been reported missing, according to the teen’s mom. The brutal incident took place where 14-year-old of Ángel Miguel Mendoza Hernández was fatally stabbed during a group assault on Aug. 5, 2025.
Injured Firefighter in Bedford Park Firehouse Blaze Released from Jacobi Medical Center
Following the fire that broke out at the Bedford Park firehouse for Engine 79/Latter 37 on Briggs Avenue on Thursday, March 26, in which 14 firefighters were injured, on Thursday, April 2, one of the injured firefighters, Laurie Galioto, from Ladder Company 37 was discharged from Jacobi Medical Center in Morris Park and was greeted on his release by his co-workers and fire unit.

At least two men have died, and three others have been injured in a series of unrelated train-related incidents that took place across Bronx train systems in the past month, according to City officials. No criminality is suspected in relation to the incidents involving the two deceased men, while one of the surviving injured victims was pushed in front of or against a moving train. Meanwhile, City officials are reminding New Yorkers that help is available for those who may be having thoughts of ending their lives.
UPDATE Norwood: Family of Allan Feliz Holds Rally outside NYPD HQ Calling for Justice
Family and friends of Allan Feliz, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop near Woodlawn Cemetery in the Norwood section of The Bronx on Oct. 17, 2019 by a police sergeant, held a rally outside NYPD headquarters in Lower Manhattan on July 8, to urge Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch to change course after she announced on July 3 that she decided not to fire the involved sergeant, now an NYPD lieutenant, Jonathan Rivera. Tisch took the decision not to fire Rivera despite the recommendation of NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Trials Rosemarie Maldonado.
