This week, we asked readers if they have felt the impact of U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies in their day-to-day lives.

“I haven’t noticed any change, but Trump is doing good for us. Yeah, Donald Trump has been doing food for us, and ‘Obamacare” hasn’t really been doing good for us these days. He [Trump] is not going hard enough, and I feel he needs to get more leniency and be given more power for what he’s doing. Trump has helped people that I know get out of prison when the January 6th thing happened. One of my family members was inside of that, so he [Trump] helped him come home and helped the guy get his job back.”

“Yes, I have. Trump’s budget cuts with HUD [U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development] affected me and I’m a disabled veteran. They completely cut me off, saying I made too much money. However, in New York City, I make three times below the poverty line. To maintain my family, my wife has to work in order to keep up with half of the bills and at the same time, she is a full-time student.”

“The policies of the Trump administration so far have been noticeably and negatively impactful. Personally, I have noticed higher costs for electronics, and higher prices at grocery stores. I’ll also add that Trump’s policies have prompted me to cut back on personal expenses and go out less, knowing that everyday life is more expensive. I now spend less.”

“The only impact I’ve felt is a negative one. The prices of everything are going up to a point that I have to make sacrifices. My wife and I are both on disability and we’re barely getting by right now. I’m not hopeful while he (Trump) is in office.”

“Donald Trump policies are hurting working class Americans, veterans, people who have disabilities and elderly people. I have friends whose 401Ks were affected. I have friends whose social security is affected and decreased.”

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
