Dinowitz & BetaNYC Launch New Map Showing Accessible City Playgrounds

District 11 City Council Member Eric Dinowitz, in partnership with BetaNYC, has launched a new mapping tool which shows the level of playground accessibility for residents near their homes and schools. The map was designed to provide an easy way for residents and their families to locate playgrounds that are safe and accessible and to accommodate those with disabilities.   The new mapping tool includes detailed information about each playground throughout New York City, including the types of accessible features that are available at each playground. Fordham Manor: Fire at 2728 Morris Avenue Results in 5 Minor Injuries

FDNY officials said a fire which broke out at 2728 Morris Avenue, a five-story, residential building, on Wednesday resulted in the hospitalization of five people with minor injuries.   When contacted by Norwood News about the incident, a fire department official said the call was received by FDNY at 8.33 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, and the fire was brought under control at 10.10 a.m.  “Main body of fire has been extinguished and incident placed under control,” FDNY officials added. Belmont: 25-Year-Old Man Dies following Shooting

The NYPD has opened a homicide investigation following the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old man in Belmont.   Police said that on Sunday, Feb. 26, at approximately 1.24 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding shots fired at the intersection of Bathgate Avenue and East 183rd Street.   “Upon arrival, officers observed a 25-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the head,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the aided male to St. Barnabas hospital where he was pronounced deceased. UPDATE DSNY Issues ‘Snow Alert’ for Monday, February 27, from 4 p.m.

New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has issued a snow alert for Monday, Feb. 27, from 4 p.m. The alert is in effect through 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28. A snow alert is the department’s “higher-level” winter weather message, as opposed to the “lower-level” winter operations advisory.   Based on current forecasts, 2 to 5 inches of slush or wet snow is possible, according to department officials.
