Police said a 40-year-old man was found deceased at the 242nd Street subway station on Wednesday, Jan. 28, in Fieldston. It follows news of a double shooting close to the same location in the early hours of Sunday morning, Jan. 25, as reported.

Two civilians incurred minor injuries and two firefighters were also injured but not seriously after a 2-alarm fire broke out in the Throggs Neck section of The Bronx in the early hours of Wednesday, Jan. 28, according to the fire department.

An “all hands” fire broke out and spread to several floors in a building in the Allerton section of The Bronx, according to the FDNY, with no injuries reported. The building includes a deli, tire shop and other possibly residential floors.

As the U.S. Senate prepares to vote on a funding bill for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday, Jan. 27, the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) joined hundreds of civil rights groups in signing on to an open letter demanding that Congress members refuse to vote for any FY2026 appropriations bill that includes increased funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Border Patrol.
