The 40th Annual Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade returned to the Grand Concourse on Saturday, May 30, and Boricua pride was ever present. With this year’s theme of “honoring the past, inspiring the future,” organizers said it reflected the parade’s longstanding commitment to preserving Puerto Rican traditions, while empowering future generations.

Past notable wins have included State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33) in 2010, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) in 2018, along with former State Sen. According to the NYPD, the latest new head of the recently implemented Patrol Borough Bronx North is NYPD Assistant Chief Aneudy Castillo. Norwood News has asked the NYPD for a biography of Castillo and will share further details as they become available.

UPDATE Kingsbridge: Off Duty Cop Charged with Shooting Man Had Accessed Police Databases without Due Authorization

Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark announced Thursday, June 11, that an NYPD officer who had been suspended without pay after allegedly, while off-duty, shooting a man in the head, has been indicted for attempted murder, assault, kidnapping and other charges in connection to the incident. The shooting which, according to the DA’s office, stemmed from the officer’s search for his stolen car, took place in the Kingsbridge section of The Bronx in March, as reported at the time.
