This week, we asked readers their thoughts on the shorter annual Bronx Week Parade and its move from Mosholu Parkway to Grand Concourse between 167th Street and 158th Street. “Why did they move it? BX BP and BX Economic Development Corp. Announce $1 Million Sustainability Challenge to BX Students
Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson and the Bronx Economic Development Corporation (BXEDC) announced the launch of the first-of-its-kind environmental sustainability challenge on Monday, May 8. BXEDC representatives said the Bronx Green Action Challenge will award up to $1 million to a Bronx-based college or university for the development and implementation of a project or set of projects that improve campus sustainability, and reduce that institution’s environmental footprint. They said higher education is one of the borough’s strongest and fastest growing industries, with 12 Bronx colleges and universities serving 50,000 students. Greek Heritage Month Celebrated in Kingsbridge ahead of Greek Independence Day Parade in Manhattan
Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson hosted her administration’s 2nd Annual Greek Heritage Month celebration in Kingsbridge on Friday, March 24, in conjunction with sponsors, Ponce Bank and the Bronx Terminal Market. There was food, cake, musical and dance performances, as well as the presentation of proclamations to a list of honorees. Why Do Kids Get Type 2 Diabetes? $4.1M Grant to Help Montefiore Einstein Researchers Investigate
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is surging among U.S. children, according to officials at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and Albert Einstein College of Medicine (together, Montefiore-Einstein). The number of young people under the age of 20 living with the disease has nearly doubled between 2001 and 2017, they said and yet, aside from increases in childhood obesity, the reasons for this disturbing increase are not clear. The good news is that the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has awarded Montefiore-Einstein a six-year, $4.1 million grant
