The New York City Emergency Management Department (EMS) and the City’s health department advised New Yorkers on Saturday, June 26, to take precautions to beat the heat. Bedford Park: Sirio Guerino Honored by BMCA for Exceptional Community Service

  For his ongoing efforts in erasing graffiti from buildings in the Bedford Park and Norwood sections of the Bronx, the Bedford Mosholu Community Association (BMCA) has presented Sirio Guerino, co-founder of Guerinos Against Graffiti (GAG), with the Mary Vallati Memorial Award, an annual prize which honors those individuals who provide exceptional service to their community.   Vallati was a longtime community activist who was active with the association until her death at 101.   A jam-packed agenda extended the May Bronx Community Board 7 (CB7) general board meeting to just under two hours. Local Councilman Votes to Ban Single-Use Plastic Straws

District 11 Council Member Eric Dinowitz cast his vote to ban single use plastic straws at a recent City Council meeting. The legislation Int. 936-A was brought up through the Council Committee on Consumer Affairs and Business Licensing. The bill would ban food service establishments from providing plastic straws unless an individual specifically asks for one.
