Friends of Hutchinson River Greenway Hold Clean-Up Event

Local biking enthusiast and Bronxite, Kevin Daloia, recently re-formed the environmental group, Friends of the Hutchinson River Greenway. The volunteer group held its first clean-up of the greenway, located in the East Bronx, on Sunday, May 2, having postponed it by a week due to rain.   Below is a selection of photographs from the clean-up. No Trash, Recycling Collection or Street Cleaning on Memorial Day, Monday May 31

There will be no trash, recycling collection or street cleaning Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day, as announced by New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) on Wednesday, May 19.    Residents who normally receive Monday trash collection may place their material at the curb between 4 p.m. and midnight Monday evening. However, there will be collection delays, as is common after holidays. DEC Announces MAY 2-8 is New York State Compost Awareness Week

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner, Basil Seggos, announced on Sunday, May 2, that “New York State Compost Awareness Week” is taking place from May 2-8. Compost Awareness Week raises awareness statewide of the environmental benefits of composting, and the declaration was formalized in a recent proclamation signed by Gov. Andrew M.
