Garden Legends Celebrate Food Pantry Opening at P.S. 113-X
Sports legends, John Starks of the New York Rangers and Brian Patrick Mullen of the NY Knicks, joined students and faculty of P.S. 113-X on Wednesday, March 13, in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for one of three new school food pantry openings taking place across the five boroughs, thanks to The Garden of Dreams Foundation and New York Edge.

Former City official and aide to four former Bronx borough presidents, Robert “Bob” Francis Nolan, who died on Dec. 15, 2023 at the age of 70, as reported, was honored with a posthumous award in the presence of his family during an Irish Heritage Month celebration hosted by the Office of the Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson on March 27.
Najhim Luke Gets 25 Years for Fatally Shooting Rising Basketball Star Brandon Hendricks in Crossfire
Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced on Friday, April 5, that Najhim Luke, 26, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison and five years post release supervision for killing Brandon Hendricks, a 17-year-old high school, rising basketball star and academic standout. He was shot in crossfire by a stray bullet, as reported.

Future of Van Cortlandt Jewish Center Still Uncertain
The future of Van Cortlandt Jewish Center (VCJC), as well as the many programs it provides, continues to remain in jeopardy as its representatives negotiate with a developer to sell the property, along with a private home the center owns on the block. Simultaneously, community residents, congregants, and users of VCJC are hoping the center’s management will listen to their concerns and how its potential closure would leave a void in the community.
Bronx BP Hosts Annual Iftar Dinner Dialogue
Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson joined the Bronx Muslim community on Thursday, March 14, in the Rotunda of Bronx Borough Hall for her annual Bronx Iftar Dinner Dialogue to mark the holy month of Ramadan, a time for fasting, prayer, and acts of kindness, which this year started on March 12 and concludes on April 9.

UPDATE Dinowitz Reads to Children, Attends Anti-Hate Photo Exhibit at Hostos Community College
City Council Member Eric Dinowitz (C.D. 11), a Democrat who represents much of the northwest Bronx, spent the morning of March 4 reading to children at the Hostos Children’s Center at Hostos Community College in Mott Haven, and later attending the College’s newly opened anti-hate photo exhibit series at Hostos Research Center.
