Schumer, Gillibrand Secure $256M for ADA Upgrades to Subway & PATH Systems

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand announced on Friday, Dec. 23, that over $256 million in federal funding was secured to upgrade the New York City Subway and Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) systems, improving accessibility to meet or exceed new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) construction standards. A plaque commemorating Bronx veterans, located at the Bronx Victory Memorial on Mosholu Parkway in Bedford Park, was photographed on the ground some time before Saturday, Dec. 10. A fire which broke out in the Norwood section of the Bronx has resulted in no injuries, according to the FDNY. Fire department officials said they received a call on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 9.13 a.m. regarding a fire on the 2nd floor of a 5-story building (100 x 60 sq. ft.) at 315 East 206th Street. It was reported to the police that Luis Berrios, 68, of 12 West 184th Street was last seen on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at around 11.28 a.m., leaving his home. He is described as male, is around 5 feet, 3 inches tall, weighs 115 pounds, has brown eyes and short salt-and-pepper hair. Police have arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 28-year-old man in University Heights. Police said the incident occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at around 5.04 a.m. Police responded to a call regarding an assault which took place at the corner of 183rd Street and University Avenue. “Upon arrival, officers observed a 28-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive with a stab wound to the torso,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded to the scene and transported the male to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
