Mpox Cases on the Rise Again

NYC Health officials are warning New Yorkers that mpox / MPV cases are once again on the rise in New York City, with 226 people in New York City having tested positive for mpox since Jan. 1, and 57 cases having been recorded in the last month (Aug. 10 to Sept. 11).

Mamdani Calls for FIFA World Cup 2026 Ticket Fairness

Democratic mayoral nominee Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani (A.D. 36) was back in The Bronx in St. James Park on Sept. 10 to “sound the alarm” ahead of the FIFA Soccer World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by New York City, but which Mamdani says the “vast majority of New Yorkers won’t be able to see” due to dynamic pricing of ticket sales.

UPDATE Williamsbridge: Man Arrested in Rape of 25-Year-Old Woman

The NYPD said a 26-year-old man has been arrested following a rape that occurred in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx earlier this month. Detectives had been asking for the public’s help identifying the person seen in the attached video and photo who they said was wanted in connection with the incident.

In a historic mental and physical challenge, after training for around one year in efforts to raise awareness about positive mental health and suicide prevention, mental health advocate Alex Moreno, an Allerton resident, pulled a car for a little over two miles along The Bronx’s Pelham Parkway South from White Plains Road to Eastchester Road on Sunday, Sept. 14.

UPDATE Fordham Manor: “The Bear” Writer Alex O’Keefe Is Suing the MTA after Metro North Arrest

After Alex O’Keefe, the award-winning screenwriter of Hulu’s “The Bear,” who is Black, posted on social media that he was allegedly arrested following a complaint made by a White woman about the way he was seated while aboard a Metro North train to Connecticut on Sept. 18, the screenwriter has since said he is suing the MTA and has released a video extract of the encounter.

Bronx High School of Science Students Offer Free Coding

A group of well-intentioned, generous students at Jerome Park’s Bronx High School of Science in recent years launched Code4NYC, a student-run organization that provides free programming classes primarily to other students in need of programming and tech help, all with the aim of making a positive impact.
