Women’s History Month kicked off with a pair of celebratory events held at Monroe College in Fordham Manor and at Jacobi Hospital in Morris Park, following International Women’s Day on March 8. On March 9, Mayor Eric Adams was expected to speak at the “My Sister’s Keeper Female Empowerment Conference,” held in the Mintz auditorium of Monroe College, located at 2501 Jerome Avenue. Police have made an arrest in the murder investigation of a 19-year-old male who was shot multiple times in the chest last month in Wakefield. On Friday, March 25, at approximately 6.48 p.m., police responded to gunshot activity which was picked up by certain gunshot technology at 4389 Matilda Avenue in Wakefield. Upon arrival, officers observed a 19-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso in front of 638 Nereid Avenue, also in the Wakefield section of the borough. The New York City Police Department is seeking the public’s help identifying the woman seen in the attached video who is wanted for questioning in connection to an assault that occurred inside a Chinese restaurant in Allerton. A 29-year-old man has died following a scooter collision in the Belmont section of The Bronx. On Thursday, March 24, at approximately 10.32 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding an unconscious man who was lying on the roadway at Southern Boulevard near Crotona Avenue, in the Belmont section of the Bronx. Jessica Altagracia Woolford, Democratic candidate for State Assembly in A.D. 81, which covers the Northwest Bronx, announced on Thursday, March 24, that she has received the endorsement of Sunrise NYC, the local chapter of the national Sunrise movement. According to its website, and as reported, Sunrise is a national grassroots mobilization to stop climate change and create millions of good-paying jobs in the process.
