Bronx ACS Employee Shirley Williams Honored with Proclamation Marking 70 Years of Service to City of New York

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) Commissioner Jess Dannhauser presented Shirley Williams of ACS, educated in the Belmont section of The Bronx and currently the longest-serving city employee, with a proclamation to mark her 70 years of service to the City of New York on Monday, Nov. 13.

Up to 400,000 packages of suspected fentanyl/heroin, plus quantities of loose powdered narcotics, carrying an estimated street value of $4 million were recovered by law enforcement on Wednesday, Nov. 1, during the disruption of an active drug packaging mill operation in the Concourse section of The Bronx. The seizure was part of an ongoing investigation into fentanyl trafficking in New York City, federal, state and local law enforcement officials said.

Jewish Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81), who represents many of the Jewish communities based in the northwest Bronx, and New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul have denounced a planned rally on Sunday, Oct. 8, in Times Square organized by the New York chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. The rally comes a day after the Associated Press and various other media outlets reported that the Hamas militant group said it was holding “dozens” of Israeli soldiers captive in the Gaza Strip.

Belmont: Four Arrested in One of NYC’s “Largest Ever” Fentanyl Raids Steps from 2nd Bronx Daycare Center

The NYPD, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) raided a family home at 2337 Beaumont Avenue in the Belmont section of The Bronx on Thursday, Oct. 5, and four people were taken into custody. The raid was carried out steps away from the back of a fenced off area where children played at Belmont Community Day Care Center, located at 2340 Cambreleng Avenue.

UPDATE Governor Declares State of Emergency Amid Flash Flood Warning, Travel Advisory in Effect Through Sept. 30

The New York City Emergency Management Department (EMS) has issued a travel advisory for Friday, Sept. 29 through Saturday morning, Sept. 30. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for New York City beginning at 2 a.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday. According to the latest NWS forecast, heavy rain is expected to continue citywide through Saturday night.
