Norwood: Rivera Confirms 20 Cameras Now Installed at Williamsbridge Oval Rec Center
State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33) confirmed on Tuesday, Dec. 16, that the 20 promised security cameras have been installed both outside and inside the Williamsbridge Oval Recreation Center in Norwood and share aerial diagrams of the exterior locations of each. Rivera said there are six exterior cameras and 14 interior ones.

Annual Fordham Road Fair Held Amid Rain as Fordham Road NYC BID Marks 20th Anniversary
The Annual Fordham Road Fair went ahead despite what was a pretty rainy day on Saturday, Oct. 11. Held along East Fordham Road roughly between the Grand Concourse and Webster Avenue, it was hosted by the Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID), which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
BP Gibson Hosts Kick-Off Event to Mark the Beginning of Veterans Appreciation Month in NYC
Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, in partnership with her office’s veterans advisory council, NYC Department of Veterans’ Services, Worldwide Veterans and Family Services, and the Sam Young American Legion Post 620, hosted a Veterans Appreciation Month kick off event to honor and celebrate Bronx veterans from all five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces on Wednesday, Oct. 29. As reported, the recognition in New York City of November as Veteran Appreciation Month began in 2023. Prior to that, just one day was marked to honor New York City’s veteran community.
UPDATE Relief Drive Launched in Bronx for Victims of Hurricane Melissa as Jamaican Consul General to NY Dies
State Sen. Jamaal Bailey (S.D. 36), chair of the Bronx Democratic Party, was among the New York elected officials who recently issued statements on the devastation caused to the island of Jamaica after it was recently hit by Hurricane Melissa. The hurricane later made its way to other Caribbean islands, and according to various media reports as of Oct. 29, 30 people had died across Haiti, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic as a result of the category 3 hurricane.
UPDATE Bronx Day in Albany Returns After Hiatus, Bringing Business, Culture, and Policy to New York’s Capital
After a multi-year hiatus, Bronx Day in Albany is making its long-awaited return, Bronx Chamber of Commerce officials said. The Chamber, together with State Sen. Nathalia Fernandez (S.D. 34) said they were proud to announce that the event will be held on Tuesday, March 10, at the Albany Capital Center.
NWS: Severe Weather Expected Wednesday Oct. 29 Through Friday Oct. 31
The National Weather Service has forecast that the New York City area may experience severe weather including heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour, starting Wednesday, Oct. 29, and continuing through Friday, Oct. 31. Accordingly, NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) is reminding all builders, contractors, crane operators, and property owners to secure their construction sites, buildings, and equipment.
