UPDATE Primaries 2026: Unofficial Results See Torres, Jackson, Dinowitz & More on Track to Keep their Seats
Over half a million New Yorkers took to the polls on Election Day to cast their ballots in various State, congressional and judicial primaries. In the State Comptroller’s Democratic primary, 522,994 New Yorkers cast their vote, while in the sole Republican Primary for Assembly Member in A.D. 86 in The Bronx, 188 people voted.
State Sen. Robert Jackson Endorses Izaiah Barrow for District Leader in A.D. 81
State Sen. Robert Jackson (S.D. 31) who represents much of the West Bronx and Northern Manhattan, has endorsed Izaiah Zeet Barrow, co-founder of the nonprofit, Theory 9, in his bid to become elected as district leader in Assembly District 81, which broadly covers Kingsbridge, Van Cortlandt Village, Norwood, Marble Hill, Spuyten Duyvil, Riverdale, Woodlawn and Wakefield. Barrow announced his candidacy in February, as reported.

Riverdale: Assemblyman Dinowitz & Councilman Dinowitz Announce 22 New Seats for P.S. 81
Council Member Eric Dinowitz (C.D. 11) and his father, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81), 71, announced Monday, June 22, that P.S. 81 in Riverdale will open a new class for the upcoming school year, expanding capacity for 22 additional students. The news comes the day before Election Day, June 23. As reported, the assemblyman, who launched his reelection campaign earlier this year, is being challenged for his assembly seat, which he has held for over 30 years, by teacher and disability activist, Morgan Evers, 42.

Local voters will no doubt be aware of a growing progressive Democratic movement in the Northwest Bronx, and in The Bronx generally, as in much of New York City over the past several years. Past notable wins have included State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33) in 2010, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) in 2018, along with former State Sen. Alessandria Biaggi, and former Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) in 2020.
