Norwood News was informed late on May 31 that Nora Feury, a lifelong Bronx resident who previously served as chair of Bronx Community Board 7 (CB7), and more recently served as CB7 secretary, has died at age 78. The NYPD said a female teen and a female pre-teen were injured in a motor-vehicle collision involving an FDNY vehicle in the Woodlawn Heights section of The Bronx on Mother’s Day. New York City Beaches Reopen for Summer 2023

NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue announced earlier this week that the City’s eight public beaches are open for swimming effective Saturday, May 27, and will remain open through Sunday, Sept. 10. The New York City Police Department is asking the public’s assistance identifying the person seen in this video who the department says is sought in connection with an assault that occurred in Fordham Heights on Sunday, May 21, 2023. Twenty-eight students from P.S. 199, The Shakespeare School, were the lucky recipients of new bikes last week thanks to the Montefiore School Health Program and the Montefiore Einstein Center for Performance Improvement. The bikes were presented to the students at their school, located at 1449 Shakespeare Avenue in the Mt. Eden section of The Bronx on Friday, May 19. Montefiore officials said the Grade 1 to 5 students, who were entered into a raffle after demonstrating respect, readiness, and responsibility, also learned about bike safety during the giveaway event.
