MMCC Restorative Justice Program Participants Paint Community Mural to Highlight Mental Health Awareness

Participants in Mosholu Montefiore Community Center (MMCC)’s Restorative Justice Program were joined by community members as well as participants in other programs offered by the Norwood-based community center for the 2023 Bronx Paint Fest Party on Saturday, May 13. During the free event, organized by NYC Mural Arts Project and other groups, the group spent the afternoon painting the mural, which had as its theme positive mental health, on one of the outdoor walls of the Center which is located at 3450 Dekalb Avenue between East Gun Hill Road and Kossuth Avenue in Norwood. In addition to the mural painting, there was also music, food, games, and a general focus on wellness.

CM Dinowitz Breaks Down Highlights of $107 Billion City Budget & $30 Million for C.D. 11

City Councilman Eric Dinowitz (C.D. 11) gave a budget presentation to district residents on Wednesday, Aug. 2, highlighting some of the local initiatives that will benefit from funding, following the adoption of the City’s $107 billion budget for the 2024 fiscal year. The councilman went over the city budget process, discussed the major highlights from the latest adopted city budget, and broke down some of the $30 million plus in discretionary funding for capital projects and other funding secured for C.D. 11, in conjunction with Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson.

Residents of Norwood are mourning the apparent but as yet unconfirmed death of a seemingly young homeless man known locally by some as “Kevin,” and affectionately nicknamed “Russia” by others, though one friend of Kevin said he believes he was actually from Bulgaria, not Russia.
