Fire Ignites on Kingsbridge Road Elevated Subway Track  

Video footage of flames and smoke seen on the elevated subway platform of the Kingsbridge Road subway station raised alarm bells on Tuesday, April 18. A spokesperson for the MTA later explained to Norwood News that a smoke condition was reported at around 8.05 a.m. and that the 4 train service was suspended until 8:57 a.m. between Woodlawn and Burnside Avenue while FDNY investigated the incident.   Firefighters were also captured at the scene on a video posted to the Citizens’ App by local residents. Students at St. Philip Neri School in Bedford Park want first responders to know how much their service means to them. On Jan. 31, more than 50 first responders, including police officers, firefighters, and EMTs were invited to attend a special mass at St. Philip Neri Church, located right next to the school. Kingsbridge: Man Armed with Imitation Pistol acting “Crazy” Shot by Police on Elevated Subway Track

  One man has been hospitalized following a police-involved shooting at 231st Street subway station in Kingsbridge, following an apparent stand off on the elevated train track between police and the man who officers said was armed with a gun. UPDATE Three Building Contractors Charged in First Bronx Manslaughter and Criminally Negligent Homicide Case

Three building contractors were indicted on Wednesday, April 12, in the first Bronx case to bring charges of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide for a construction fatality which took place, as reported by Norwood News at the time, at 94 East 208th Street in Norwood in 2019.   The victim, a father and 46-year-old Ecuadorian immigrant worker, Segundo Manuel Huerta Mayancela, was crushed by 1,000 pounds of debris in what was described as an egregiously dangerous building site, a joint investigation by NYC Department of Investigation (DOI) and the Bronx District Attorney’s office found. Jerome Park: Two Injured in Two-Vehicle Car Crash

  Two people were injured following a two-car collision at the intersection of Jerome Avenue and Van Cortlandt Avenue in Jerome Park on Tuesday, April 4, emergency services said.   An EMS representative said they received the call at 2.46 p.m. on the day of the collision.
