Montefiore Resident Doctors Call on Hospital to Form Voluntary Union

  Montefiore Medical Center residents and fellows requested voluntary union recognition during a press conference held outside the Norwood-based hospital, one of the largest teaching hospitals in New York City, on Nov. 1. The group pointed to conditions that they say were exacerbated during the pandemic and which they say continue to persist.   Over 1,200 residents and fellows asked for better compensation, better pay, and improved benefits like improved family leave. Many say they have been overworked and understaffed. The residents also called for yearly bonuses and more support staff. Some residents say they work 80 hours a week

Bronx Chamber of Commerce Mourns Chairman Joseph P. Kelleher & Share Funeral Details

The New Bronx Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors are mourning the death of longtime chairman, Joseph P. Kelleher, and have shared details of his funeral arrangements, which are attached further below. The Board of Directors announced Kelleher’s passing on Friday, Nov. 25, writing in part, “It is with profound sadness that the Board of Directors and leadership team of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce announce the death of our Chairman, Joseph Kelleher.”   They said, “Chairman Kelleher was a loving husband and father, friend and mentor to many, businessman and fierce advocate for The Bronx and New York State.

West Farms: HPD Launches Housing Lottery for Senior Apartments at 915 Elsmere Place

NYC Department of Housing, Preservation & Development (HPD) has launched an affordable housing lottery for senior apartments at 915 Elsmere Place, a nine-story building in the West Farms section of The Bronx, as reported by YIMBY.   Designed by Marin Architects and developed by Stagg Group, the structure yields 72 residential units and 15 parking spaces. UPDATE Elections 2022: Nov. 8 Unofficial Results & Reaction to Statewide and North Bronx Races

After the polls closed on Tuesday, Nov. 8, the New York City Board of Elections released the initial, unofficial results of the general elections, based on a percentage of returned poll site scanners. These initial results cover both early votes and election day votes. Absentee and overseas ballots still have to be counted, as do the remaining scanners.   Below is a summary of the unofficial results to date of the main Statewide and North Bronx races.
