Bronx Borough Hall was lit in yellow in recognition of International Holocaust Remembrance on Friday, Jan. 27, along with all municipal buildings across the the City. Fatal Longwood Gunshot Victim, Josue Lopez-Ortega, Saves 7 People Through Organ Donation

  The 15-year-old male gunshot victim who was fatally shot in the Longwood section of the Bronx on Jan. 19, as reported,  has provided the gift of life, via organ donation, saving seven people, according to LiveOnNY. The latter is a nonprofit, federally designated organ procurement organization (OPO) dedicated to saving lives, providing comfort, and strengthening legacies through organ, eye, and tissue donation.   Working closely with transplant centers and hospitals, LiveOnNY coordinates transplants, educates the public and healthcare professionals about donation and transplantation, and promotes the importance of signing up on the New York State Donate Life Registry.

UPDATE Westchester Square: NYPD Launch Murder Inquiry after Boy, 15, Dies Apparently from Neck Trauma

The NYPD has launched a murder inquiry following an incident in the Westchester Square section of The Bronx in which a 15-year-old boy died.   Police said that on Monday, Jan. 23, at around. 4.18 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding an aided, unconscious male who was inside an apartment building located on Doris Street.   “Prior to the arrival of police, EMS responded to the location and transported an unconscious and unresponsive 15-year-old male to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced deceased,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “Further investigation revealed the male victim had sustained trauma

Crotona: Man, 29, Dead & Four Other Men Wounded following Multiple Shooting

A 29-year-old man has died and three other men are wounded but are in stable condition following a multiple shooting in the Crotona section of The Bronx, police said.   According to the NYPD, on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 6.36 p.m., officers from the 48th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a group of people who had been shot at East Tremont Avenue and Southern Boulevard.   “Upon arrival, police discovered four individuals shot,” a police spokesperson said. “Victim #1, a 28-year-old male, was shot in the chest and transported to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Bronx Man Gets Life for Fatal Shooting of Bystander at Father’s Day BBQ

Damian Williams, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced on Dec. 12 that Bronx man, Ralph Berry, was sentenced to life in prison for the June 2000 fatal shooting in The Bronx of innocent bystander, Caprice Jones. Jones was left paralyzed from the shooting and died from his injuries 10 years later in November 2010. Berry was convicted following a jury trial on September 30, 2021, before then-U.S. District Judge Alison J. Nathan. Amid Winter Storm, ACS Says Infants Should Never Sleep With Blankets or in Adult Beds

Amid the winter storm, the NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) is reminding parents and caregivers with infants about the ways to keep their children safe while sleeping. Officials said there is serious danger associated with babies less than a year-old sleeping with parents in adult beds, or sleeping with blankets or quilts, which can create a risk of suffocation.
