Bronx Community Board 7 (CB7) held their 2nd Annual Veterans’ Memorial Flagging event at the Bronx Victory Memorial, located on Mosholu Parkway in Bedford Park, on Saturday, May 13, 2023, ahead of Memorial Day weekend. A flagging event is an occasion when residents visit the grave sites or other memorial sites dedicated to veterans and place American flags there in memory and honor of those who served and died for their country. A now annual COVID memorial ceremony was once again held by local northwest Bronx residents, including Friends of Jerome Park, at Fort Washington Walk at the corner of Reservoir Avenue and University Avenue in Jerome Park on Saturday, May 13, to commemorate those lost to COVID-19 over the course of the recent pandemic. Police said that a 9-year-old boy died on Sunday in the Mt. Hope section of the Bronx. They said he appears to have fallen out of a window, though the investigation is ongoing. The NYPD launched a murder investigation after a 69-year-old man was found unconscious and unresponsive on the street in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx, and died one week later.
