A 32-year-old man has been arrested following the fatal shooting of 48-year-old Bedford Park man in the Wakefield section of The Bronx on Juneteenth, police said.

According to the NYPD, on Monday, June 19, at approximately 12.03 p.m., officers from the 47th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot inside a bodega located at 4052 White Plains Road.

“Upon arrival, officers observed a 48-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the back,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to NYC Health & Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.” Police said there are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The victim was identified as Howard Ferguson, 48, with a last known address at a Bedford Park Boulevard residential building in Bedford Park in The Bronx.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, Oriean Dorsett, 32, from the Wakefield section of The Bronx, was arrested in connection with the incident on Monday, June 19, at 10.01 p.m. in the 47th Precinct. He was charged with murder, manslaughter, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

When Norwood News called to the apartment at the relevant Bedford Park Boulevard address for the victim, we were met by a man who, speaking in Spanish, said he had lived in the apartment for four months and did not know the victim.

After attempting to reach several residents of the building, we eventually spoke with one male neighbor who told us he had lived there for a long time, and had never heard the victim’s name mentioned, though he added that he did know the name of some of his other neighbors.

A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/, or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
