NYC Department of Corrections (DOC) announced the appointment on Thursday, April 20, of Dr. Anita Gupta as the new chief surgeon of its health management division (HMD). They said Gupta has extensive experience, has held several professional government appointments, and is actively board licensed and certified as an anesthesiologist.   In her new role, DOC officials said Gupta will report directly to First Deputy Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie and will oversee and direct the administration, delivery, and review of employee medical and health services. Norwood: As State Budget Talks Drag On, Health Officials Join Advocates Calling to Expand Healthcare Coverage to Immigrants

UPDATE Wakefield: Man Arrested on Murder Charge following Fatal Shooting of 32-Year-Old Man

A 31-year-old man has been arrested following the fatal shooting in mid-April of a 32-year-old man in the Wakefield section of The Bronx, police said.   As reported, an NYPD spokesperson said that on Tuesday, April 18, at around 10.53 p.m., officers from the 47th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot in front of 4531 Hill Avenue.   “Upon arrival officers observed a 32-year-old male with gunshot wounds to the head and shoulder,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “The victim was transported by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced deceased.”
