NYBG Premieres Holiday Train Show

Ahead of the festive season, The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) premiered, on Nov. 12, its annual Holiday Train Show, a winter wonderland exhibit of miniature trains riding around miniature replicas of some of New York City’s most iconic landmarks.

NY Lottery: Top Prize Winning Take-5 Ticket Sold in Kingsbridge Heights

It was an extra special Thanksgiving for one lucky Bronxite as The New York Lottery announced on Thursday, Nov. 28, that one top-prize winning ticket was sold for the Nov 27 Take 5 evening drawing in Kingsbridge Heights. Officials said the prize-winning ticket, worth $35,033, was sold at 1 Deli Bronx LLC, located at 2897 Sedgwick Avenue.

Olinville: Marcus Garvey Square Unveiled

Huddled under raingear, tents, and umbrellas, a proud group of Bronx residents gathered in Olinville under the East Gun Hill Road elevated subway tracks and the day’s drizzle on Friday, Nov. 22, to see a long campaign by community activists come to fruition with the renaming of Williamsbridge Square as Marcus Garvey Square.   

Fordham Manor: Man Stable after Afternoon Stabbing on Fordham Road

A 33-year-old man is in stable condition after a non-fatal stabbing took place in Fordham Manor. Police said they received a call at 2.37 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, for reports of a stabbing at 201 East Fordham Road at the Grand Concourse [a Chick-fil-A restaurant]. They said the victim was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition and remained uncooperative when questioned about the incident.

Former Bronx NYCHA Super Convicted of Bribery and Extortion Offenses at Trial

In the second trial following a 70-person takedown in February 2024 and the largest single day bribery/extortion case in federal history, Bronx man, Hector Colon, a former New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) superintendent, was convicted on Friday, Nov. 22, of bribery and extortion for accepting cash from NYCHA contractors in exchange for awarding contracts.

Former Bronx Resident Arrested for Attempting to Provide Material Support to ISIS & Sharing Info on Homemade Explosives

Federal prosecutors announced on Friday, Nov. 22, that a former 33-year-old Bronx resident, Erald Alimehmeti, was arrested in connection with a complaint charging him with allegedly attempting to provide material support to ISIS (the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham) and allegedly distributing instructional information regarding the making of explosives. Alimehmeti appeared in federal court Friday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Stewart D. Aaron and was ordered detained.
