Gillibrand Releases New Report on Anti-Gun Trafficking Law

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand unveiled her report analyzing initial successes arising from the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA)’s anti-gun trafficking section and mental health funding distribution on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Gillibrand’s first-of-its-kind report found that more than 1,300 illegal guns have been seized and more than 200 defendants have been charged under BSCA’s new gun trafficking statute.

The New York State Cannabis Control Board will hold a public board meeting on Friday, Dec. 8, at 10.30 a.m. at Empire State Plaza Convention Center, Meeting Rooms 6, Albany, NY 12242. Members of the public are invited to comment, should they wish to do so. The event will also be livestreamed. Meanwhile, a court has lifted an injunction, put in place since August 2023, to allow the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) to continue reviewing applications for Conditional Adult Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) licenses.

Two related blood cancers that disproportionally target older adults called acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), are notoriously difficult to treat and are associated with high relapse rates, according to medical experts at Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center (MECCC). Although new therapies have improved survival rates, they say treatment options remain limited, and the prognosis for the 50% of people who have these cancers, remains poor.
