Boricua Pride & Lots of Wheels at 40th Bronx PR Day Parade

The 40th Annual Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade returned to the Grand Concourse on Saturday, May 30, and Boricua pride was ever present. With this year’s theme of “honoring the past, inspiring the future,” organizers said it reflected the parade’s longstanding commitment to preserving Puerto Rican traditions, while empowering future generations.

UPDATE Norwood: Armed Man Holds Police, Community at Bay in 4-Hour Stand Off

Police said a 40-year-old man held police at bay for more than 4 hours during an armed stand off in Norwood on Tuesday, June 16. Residents say that East Mosholu Parkway was shut down to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Bainbridge Avenue to Webster Avenue for the duration of the stand off.

Bronx H.S. of Science Evacuated after Bomb Threat & after April Bomb Threat Caused 52 Pct Evacuation

The entire student body as well as staff of Bedford Park’s Bronx High School of Science were evacuated from the school building after a bomb threat was discovered on the school’s answering machine on Friday, June 12, according to the NYPD. No device was found following the threat and classes would eventually resume. The hoax comes a little over two months after a similar call was received at the nearby 52nd Precinct stationhouse in Norwood in April.
