Bedford Park: HPD Launches Lottery for Senior Apartments at 2850 Webster Avenue

NYC Department of Housing, Preservation & Development (HPD) has launched an affordable housing lottery for senior apartments at 2850 Webster Avenue, a 12-story, mixed-use building in the Bedford Park section of The Bronx, as reported by YIMBY.

 

2856 Webster Avenue, and sister development, 410 Bedford Park Boulevard, are located on an acre-plus piece of land owned by The New York Botanical Garden, situated on the southeast corner of Webster Avenue and Bedford Park Boulevard, located in Bronx Community District 7.

 

Norwood News previously reported on the early stages of the planning of the development which includes a new Cherry Orchard supermarket move, and which also included the concerns raised by residents about needed ancillary services in the local community to serve the new housing population.

 

Designed by Stephen B. Jacobs Group, and developed by Douglaston Development, the structure yields 189 residential units. Available on NYC Housing Connect, HPD’s online portal, are 130 units for residents earning 50 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $0 to $60,050.

 

Residents will have access to an on-site laundry room, a 24-hour building superintendent, part-time on-site security, and social services. Gas is included in the rent. Individuals or households must meet the minimum age requirement which is 62 years of age or older at the time of application submission, and they must qualify for Section 8 housing vouchers.

 

At 50 percent of the AMI, there are 105 studios available with a monthly rental payment of $0 for those on incomes ranging from $0 to $53,400; and 25 one-bedroom units with a monthly rental payment of $0 for those with incomes ranging from $0 to $60,050.

 

Prospective renters must meet income and household size requirements to apply for the apartments, and applications must be postmarked or submitted online via NYC Housing Connect or through Fordham Bedford Housing Corp., no later than Jan. 3, 2023.
