UPDATE Bronx Park: Man Dies following Car Accident

  A 50-year-old man has died following a car accident in the vicinity of Bronx Park.   Police said on Sunday, Feb. 6, at approximately 5.13 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle collision on the southbound Bronx River Parkway at East Fordham Road. Upon arrival, they observed a vehicle that had been involved in a collision and a 50-year-old man with serious injuries.   EMS also responded and transported the man to NYC Health + Hospitals/ Jacobi, where he was pronounced deceased. Montefiore Children’s Hospital Co-Authored Study Highlights Danger of Magnetic “Desk Toys”

  A new study co-authored by two pediatric gastroenterologists at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) has highlighted the danger of small, high-powered magnets commonly sold as “desk toys” for adults, and which are sometimes ingested by children.   The study, published in Pediatrics, combines data from 25 children’s hospitals in the U.S, assessing 596 children over three years when high-powered magnets were reintroduced to the market, after having been removed previously by the Consumer Product Safety Commission in 2012. NYS DOL Announces Bricklayer and Craftworker Apprenticeship Recruitment Drive

  New York State Department of Labor (NYS DOL) announced Thursday, Feb. 3 that the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local Union #1, will be conducting a recruitment drive from Feb. 25, 2022 through Jan. 27, 2023 (excluding July 2022 and August 2022) for 25 bricklayer-mason apprentices; 25 pointer, caulker & cleaner apprentices; five stone mason apprentices; and five plasterer apprentices.   NYS DOL advised that applications and affidavits will be available online at www.bricklayersandalliedcraftworkerslocal1ny.org 24 hours per day on the following dates: 2/25/22, 3/25/22, 4/29/22, 5/27/22, 6/24/22, 9/30/22, 10/28/22, 11/18/22, and 12/16/22 and 1/27/23.

EMS Issues Travel Advisory Amid Expected Freezing Rain & Sleet Through Saturday

The New York City Emergency Management Department (EMS) has issued a travel advisory for Friday, Feb. 4 into Saturday, Feb. 5, as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter weather advisory for New York City, which is in effect from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday.
