For almost four decades, Norwood News has served as a pivotal source of information and a vital resource for our Norwood community through grassroots hyperlocal reporting. Norwood News has been with us through the good, the bad, and everything in between, with an unyielding commitment to showcasing the people behind the headlines.

While mainstream traditional media for years only appeared in our borough to further emphasize a negative narrative about The Bronx, Norwood News was determined to highlight a different story.

They recognized the strength, resilience, and innovation happening here every day. Rather than repeating outdated tropes, they chose to uplift the voices of residents, community leaders, and organizations driving meaningful change and redefining what the Bronx represents. The leadership at the Norwood News understood the importance of shining a light on these efforts and reclaiming the narrative about our borough.

As we are seeing dramatic changes across both local and mainstream media, Norwood News’ absence will be felt well beyond the Norwood community. Their coverage has been an important source of information, accountability, and storytelling for residents across The Bronx.

I wish the dedicated team who has worked at this publication nothing but the very best, and I hope that they will continue to elevate community voices, pursue impactful journalism, and remain connected to the borough they have served so well for 38 years.

Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson has served as borough president of The Bronx since Jan. 1, 2022.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
