“Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad (CIS) determined that a 2001 Toyota sedan, operated by a 30-year-old male was traveling westbound on the Cross Bronx Expressway when it collided with the rear of a 2016 Freightliner tractor trailer that was stopped in the left lane, and unoccupied due to a previous collision with another motor vehicle,” the spokesperson said.
“EMS responded and transported the operator of the Toyota to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased,” the spokesperson added. “The operator of the tractor trailer did remain on scene and was not injured. There are no arrests at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.”
