Three Homicides Reported in Night of Violence across The Bronx

Bronx homicide detectives are working overtime this weekend after at least five people were shot, three fatally, in less than 24-hours.

 

According to the NYPD, and as reported, the first incident was reported at 4:09 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, when officers from the 52nd precinct responded to a report of an assault inside 2550 Bainbridge Avenue. Officers discovered a man, later identified by police as Jayquan Lewis, 21, of Fordham Manor, lying unconscious and unresponsive inside the location.

Lewis had been shot multiple times and died before reaching a still-undisclosed area hospital. As of Sunday morning, police had made no arrests and did not report any information on the assailant.

 

After a night of relative calm on Friday, the following morning on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 2:08 a.m., officers from the 50th precinct were called to Jerome Avenue, between Bainbridge Avenue and East 233rd Street, on the Norwood-Woodlawn border, following a report of a shooting. Police said an adult male was pronounced deceased at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police said no arrests had been made and the investigation remains ongoing.

 

Just before sunrise on Saturday, Aug. 14., at 4:11 a.m., police officers from the 46th precinct were called to 1770 Davidson Avenue, in Morris Heights, where police discovered two victims who had been shot. A 27-year-old man was shot in the chest and right leg, and a 23-year-old man was shot once in the torso.

 

The 27-year-old victim was rushed to BronxCare Health System where he was pronounced deceased. The 23-year-old man was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition as of Saturday morning.

The name of the deceased is pending family notification. No arrests have been made in the case, which remains open and active.

 

Norwood News received unconfirmed reports of at least one other shooting at 1650 Topping Avenue, near Claremont Park, just before 7 p.m. on August 13, where the victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
