Torres Co-Leads Bipartisan Bill to Address Childcare Affordability

Rep. Ritchie Torres (NY-15) co-led the introduction on Wednesday, Feb. 28, of legislation described by his office as groundbreaking, to tackle the pressing issue of childcare affordability faced by families across the nation. Officials from to the Bronx congressman’s office said the bipartisan measure, known as the Combatting High Inflation Limiting Daycare Act, or the “CHILD Act,” seeks to provide much-needed relief to American families struggling to meet the rising costs of childcare by doubling the annual contribution limit for tax-advantaged Dependent Care Flexible Savings Accounts (DCFSAs).

New Laws Introduced to Protect Children from Opioid Exposure

State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33), Councilmember Pierina Sanchez (C.D. 14), Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, and childcare advocates joined Otoniel Feliz Samboy and Zoila Dominici, the parents of the late Nicholas Feliz Dominici, 1, for a press conference on Fordham Road and Grand Concourse on Thursday, Dec. 14, to announce the introduction of a series of bills in the New York State Legislature and the New York City Council to protect children from opioid exposure in childcare facilities.

Kingsbridge Heights Small Business Owners Being Pushed Out

With a Jan. 18 deadline fast approaching for receipt of applications by the City of New York to a Request for Proposal (RFP) to redevelop the Kingsbridge Armory in Kingsbridge Heights, supporters of 12 local small businesses located along nearby Jerome Avenue and East Kingsbridge Road held a rally on Thursday, Dec. 7, calling on the merchants’ landlord to renew the merchants’ leases, rather than sell to the soon-to-be selected developer or associate partner.
