UPDATE: City Opens 5 Service Centers to Support Recovery from Flash Flood Emergency

NYC Emergency Management and the NYC Department of Social Services announced on Saturday, Sept. 4., that service centers have opened citywide to support individuals and families affected by the flash flood emergency that occurred on Sept. 1 following Storm Ida, as reported. The five centers are open each day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and are providing those affected by the storm with in-person support and information on resources and services available. A second protest in response to a police-involved shooting turned violent on Friday, Sept. 3, when protesters knocked over metal barricades and a police vehicle was doused with gasoline. A 28-year-old man has died following a shooting at Edenwald Houses in the Edenwald section of the Bronx. Police responded to a 911 call regarding the shooting which occurred in front of 1137 East 229 Drive South in the 47th Precinct/Police Service Area 8 on Friday, Sept. 3, at approximately 8.38 p.m. Upon arrival, officers observed the 28-year-old with a gunshot wound to his chest. EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to Montefiore Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The investigation is ongoing. New York City’s Emergency Management Department provided the following update on Thursday evening, Sept. 2. on its recovery efforts following Tropical Storm Ida’s arrival in New York City. NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) advised building owners and property managers on Thursday, Sept. 2, to take added precautions when surveying damage at their properties, after historic and deadly floods inundated neighborhoods across the city overnight. Ridgewood Savings Bank (“Ridgewood”) announced Wednesday, Sept. 1, that its Sedgwick Avenue branch, located at 3899 Sedgwick Avenue in the Van Cortlandt Village section of the Bronx, will finally remain open.
