A 78-year-old woman has died following a motor vehicle accident in the Olinville section of The Bronx, police said.
Police sad that on Saturday, May 24, at around 10.24 p.m., officers from the 47th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle at the intersection of White Plains Road and East 216th Stree
“Further investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad determined a 78-year-old female pedestrian was walking northbound on White Plains Road in the roadway when she was struck from behind by a 2024 Toyota Rav4, also traveling northbound on White Plains Road.” Police said the Toyota was being driven by a 56-year-old woman.
“The 78-year-old female sustained severe head trauma and was transported by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi where she was pronounced deceased,” the spokesperson said. “The operator of the Toyota remained on scene. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.”
Police said the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending proper family notification.
