Thanksgiving Celebrated Across The Bronx

Local elected officials, nonprofits, food pantries, and regular individuals donated even more cash, food and time than usual this year to host various turkey giveaways and Thanksgiving dinners for Bronxites following the recent federal government shutdown which, as reported, had a marked impact on food insecurity in the borough.

Theory 9, a local nonprofit focused on empowering youth, Democratic State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33), local community organizer and teacher, Morgan Evers, and various partners including City Meals on Wheels, hosted a produce giveaway ahead of Thanksgiving to to support local families in the Norwood section of The Bronx on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Despite announcing in August that the Bronx District Office of New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) would be moving from the Belmont section of The Bronx to a new Bronx Terminal Market location in the South Bronx in September, customers with DMV appointments have been observed showing up to the now-closed office. Eleven customers were seen at the former location in October, seemingly unaware that the department had moved premises 14 days earlier, some on spec and some with appointments.

UPDATE 56-Year-Old Bronx Man Arrested for Stabbing of Cab Driver

The New York Federation of Taxi Drivers (NYSFTD) held a press conference in The Bronx on Wednesday, Nov. 26, to call for justice for a cab driver who was critically injured in an early morning stabbing in The Bronx and to announce a $5,000 reward for information on the perpetrator.
