A 29-year-old man has died following a scooter collision in the Belmont section of The Bronx. On Thursday, March 24, at approximately 10.32 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding an unconscious man who was lying on the roadway at Southern Boulevard near Crotona Avenue, in the Belmont section of the Bronx. Upon arrival, officers observed a 29-year-old man, lying on the roadway, with trauma to the body. The aided man was lying next to a motorized scooter with sustained damage. The NYPD said a woman was brought to an area hospital after being hit by a vehicle in a hit and run incident which occurred on the border of the Fordham Manor and Fordham Heights neighborhoods. The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has issued a winter operations advisory for Saturday, March 12, beginning at 1 a.m. This type of advisory is the department’s “lower level” winter weather message, as opposed to the “higher level” snow alert. Police confirm a man and woman were killed, and two other passengers were injured following a 3-vehicle collision that took place on the Cross Bronx Expressway on Friday, and shut down the busy roadway for nearly five hours. Following a winter hiatus, and the successful completion of earlier stages of construction and roadway work which began in September 2020, the MTA Bridges and Tunnels division announced that it is resuming roadway work, and advancing to the next stage of deck replacement at Throggs Neck Bridge. New York City Emergency Management (EMS) issued a travel advisory on Thursday, Feb. 24, which is in effect through Friday, Feb. 25. The National Weather Service had issued a winter weather advisory for New York City the same day which is also in effect until 1 p.m. on Friday. According to Thursday’s forecast, snow was due to fall on Thursday night and change to a mix of sleet, rain, and possible freezing rain early Friday morning.
